Monopoly

The Fast Dealing Game of Business!

Originally called “The Landlord’s Game,” Monopoly is one of the most loved board games in the world. It was invented in 1904 by a woman named Elizabeth Magie who wanted to use the game as a means to educate people about the harmful effects of land ownership monopolies. It was later re-designed and published as Monopoly by Charles Darrow in 1934, who sold his version through a department store in Philadelphia. In 1935 Parker Brothers purchased the rights to Monopoly and began production of their own version. Sales of the game boomed despite the Great Depression, and Monopoly earned a permanent place in pop culture history.
